Reacher Season 1 Blu-ray Review

“Reacher” finally gets Jack Reacher right.
Based on the hit book series by Lee Child, the debut season of “Reacher” adapts the first novel in the series “Killing Floor.” In the 8 episode season one, the brainy, imposing, former military officer turned drifter Jack Reacher travels to the small town of Margrave, Georgia where he immediately finds himself in hot water. Not only is he accused of a murder he didn’t commit, but he finds that his brother has been killed. Along with police Captain Oscar Finlay and officer Roscoe Conklin (whom Reacher develops a connection with), Reacher has to prove his innocence and look into this mystery involving multiple murders, political and police corruption, a counterfeit business, mercenaries,
Tom Cruise is a bonafide action star but he was miscast as Jack Reacher in the two feature films. Thankfully, this new Amazon Prime series adaptation developed by Nick Santora gets the character (and the franchise) right.
“Reacher” has everything you could want from a dramatic series. There’s mystery, characterization, crime, action, suspense, romance, and, did I mention action? Whether you’re aiming to see shootouts, explosions, or intense hand to hand combat, “Reacher” has you covered. This is easily one of the best action series on television period. It’s like a combination of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes meets John Wick (even though the novels predate both).
Above all else though, Alan Ritchson is perfectly cast as Jack Reacher. The actor has been around for years in genre TV series and films like “Smallville,” “Titans,” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” but this is the role that has finally made him a star. Not only does he perfectly handle the physical aspects of the badass and mysterious character, but he has great chemistry with the co-leads Willa Fitzgerald (Roscoe) and Malcolm Goodwin (Oscar). Even when the stories feel like run-of-the-mill crime and conspiracy tales, the chemistry between these 3 characters locks you in. You’re invested in them and want to embark on this treacherous ordeal with them. It’s unclear if Fitzgerald and Goodwin will be in more seasons as Reacher is always on the move, but their presence in season 1 certainly benefited the series to say the least.
