Batman And Superman: Battle Of The Super Sons 4K UHD Review

“Batman And Superman: Battle Of The Super Sons” is well worth checking out.

It’s a big week for DC. Today sees the release of the theatrical film “Black Adam” along with the new video game “Gotham Knights” and this past Tuesday saw the release of this new animated feature film. Batman and Superman aren’t front and center in this entry. Instead, it’s about the offspring of the two heroes- Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne. The story begins by focusing on the Kent family with Jonathan developing powers and learning the truth about who Clark Kent is. Jonathan eventually meets his hero Batman along with his son Damian who doesn’t play well with others. After Batman and Superman investigate a strange occurrence at The Watchtower, all hell breaks loose as Starro The Conqueror and his spores begin to control superheroes and human citizens. As you might have guessed, it’s up to Jonathan and Damian to try and save the day.

Directed by Matt Peters and written by Jeremy Adams (does this guy write everything at WB lately?), “Batman And Superman: Battle Of The Super Sons” is a fast paced and fun character centric tale that focuses on the next generation of DC heroes. Although the Starro plot may be overly reminiscent of “The Suicide Squad,” the villain makes for a perfect foe as it forces Jonathan and Damian together (who are two complete opposites). The angry, bratty, violent Damian/Robin is far from one of my favorite characters (in fact he’s one of my least favorite), but his pairing with the jovial, upbeat Jonathan/Superboy works well here. Seeing the two characters form a bond and work together makes for a good story for a DC animated feature film.

For the comic book lovers out there, there’s plenty of surprises here too with character pop-ups (including The Penguin and Krypto), familiar Bat Cave elements, and a moving comic book panel esque montage of Superman’s life.

Voice cast wise, the stand outs here include Jack Dylan Grazer as Jonathan (who is no stranger to the DC Universe as he plays Freddy in the “Shazam!” films), fan favorite Laura Bailey as Lois Lane and Jack Griffo as Damian Wayne.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1 2160p. How does it look? This particular animated feature has a different animation style (3D CGI to be exact). Happy to report that it shines in 4K too!

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? Expect an active 5.1 track that puts the speakers to work.

Extras:
* Blu-ray copy
* Digital copy
* 2 “Batman: The Animated Series” episodes- “The Demon’s Quest” Parts 1 and 2.
* “Rival Sons: Jonathan and Damian”- A nearly 15 minute featurette on the 2 characters
