Fortress: Sniper’s Eye Blu-ray Review

Second verse, same as the first.
In “Fortress: Sniper’s Eye” (the sequel to “Fortress”), the story takes place 2 weeks after the events of the first movie. Robert rescues his allegedly dead enemy Balzary’s wife (Sasha) who was being held captive in Russia. He’s injured in the process and returns to the Fortress compound/bunker with Sasha to recuperate. Robert’s son Paul is still at the bunker alongside his new love Kate. Kate’s mother and sister are en route to visit them at the bunker as well. While Paul, Kate and her family, Ken and his girlfriend are prepping a hike, all hell breaks loose when someone from the past film returns with another armed assault on the compound (you can probably guess who).
Directed by Josh Sternfeld and written by Alan Horsnail, the sequel (which was shot back-to-back with the first film) offers nothing new. In fact, it’s little more than a tedious retread with another assault on the compound, people being held captive, captives escaping and fighting back, bad guys dying, and the villain attempting the same exact plan. If you watched the first film and were at all invested you might as well see how the story ends here. If you didn’t care about anything happening in “Fortress,” the needless sequel won’t change your mind.
The sequel is perhaps most notable for being one of the last Bruce Willis films now that he is retiring from aphasia. For the most part, Willis is sidelined in the movie, but he has a few big scenes. The majority of screentime is devoted to Jesse Metcalfe (bland as ever) and Chad Michael Murray (who continues to be having over-the-top fun)
