Beavis And Butt-Head Do America Blu-ray Review

“Beavis And Butt-Head Do America” is still an animated classic.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of “Beavis And Butt-Head Do America,” Paramount has at long last released the animated feature on Blu-ray for the first time. The Mike Judge and Joe Stillman scripted story begins with Beavis and Butt-Head’s TV being stolen. The 2 go out to look for it but find themselves being hired by a criminal nimed Muddy hiring them (thinking they are someone else) “to do” his wife (Dallas). Thinking they’re going to score, the 2 fly to Las Vegas to meet Dallas who sends the 2 dimwits on a bus tour of America to Washington D.C. Moreover Dallas hides an X-5 bioweapon inside of Beavis’s shorts unbeknownst to him. It turns out the FBI and other authorities are after Dallas and are searching for the X-5 unit. The Feds believe Beavis and Butt-Head are dangerous criminal masterminds that need to be stopped. A subplot involving the grumpy old timer Tom Anderson and his wife also plays a key part of the story.
While we all wait for the return of “Beavis And Butt-Head” on Paramount+ at some point (maybe 2022?), it was a blast to revisit the first feature film again. The ever prophetic director Mike Judge has a real knack for exploring American culture and society through the 2 titular ignorant, horny, laughing, TV obsessed teens. Putting the 2 characters on a road trip adventure was a no brainer movie and it pays off in a big way as we see the 2 characters creating chaos wherever they go be it the Hoover Dam or The White House. Judge even throws a few surprises in here such as the duo’s biological fathers, a cinematic Kaiju esque dream sequence and a wild sequence of Beavis tripping over a Rob Zombie tune.
Speaking of Rob Zombie, this soundtrack is killer. Expect to hear tracks from the likes of Isaac Hayes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rob Zombie, AC/DC, No Doubt, Ozzy Osbourne among others.
While Mike Judge does most of the heavy lifting voice acting wise with 5 main characters, the movie does boast an all-star cast of voice talent that includes Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Cloris Leachman and Robert Stack. They’re all superb by Robert Stack is especially perfect as Agent Flemming.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: 1.78:1 1080p. How does it look? The transfer isn’t a homerun as it’s a little fuzzy for my taste, but it’s still a nice upgrade (the trippy sequence looks especially noteworthy here).
Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? I have zero complaints with the audio track here. It does the job.
Extras:
* Digital copy
* 2 teaser trailers, 12 TV spots and a commentary by Mike Judge and Yvette Kaplan.
* “We’re Gonna Score! Scoring Beavis And Butt-Head Do America” featurette
* 3 ‘Beavis’ centric MTV News Celebrity Shorts with Jennifer Tilly, Steve Buscemi and Snoop Dogg.
* “The Smackdown”- A montage of scenes from the film.
