Spiral: From The Book Of Saw 4K Review

“Spiral: From The Book Of Saw” doesn’t revitalize the franchise.

After a Police Detective is killed by a trap, Detective Zeke (the son of a former Police Chief) and his new rookie partner William investigate the murder. During the investigation, more cops start to get killed off. Is there a new Jigsaw copycat killer on the loose or is it someone else entirely?

After hearing that Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson were attached to a new “Saw” reboot/sequel, I was immediately intrigued. As a fan of the horror franchise, I was curious to see where it could go next. Alas, “Spiral: From The Book Of Saw” isn’t the fresh franchise resurrection that fans were hoping for.

While the film’s exploration of police corruption is certainly timely and ripe for exploration, it ultimately falls by the wayside as this is really just another “Saw” movie at the end of the day. It’s filled with your typical gore and brutal death traps (that hot wax one is particularly nasty). Under the eye of director Darren Lynn Bousman (who is no stranger to the series), the movie never has a dull moment as it races towards the end reveal, but you’re left wanting something more.

As for the film’s stars, Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson both provide a veteran presence. There’s no question that that level of acting talent livens up the picture 100%. Max Minghella really steals the show though as William. You’ll know why when you see it.

Video/Audio:
