Possessor Uncut Blu-ray Review

“Possessor Uncut” is one warped movie.

In 2020’s “Possessor,” the story revolves around Tasya Vos who is an assassin that can take control of other’s bodies (via advanced brain implant technology) with the purpose of eliminating targets. Tasya becomes increasingly disconnected with the real world (in particular with her family) and that becomes even more evident when she is assigned to “possess” a man named Colin in order to take out Colin’s girlfriend (Ava) and her father John (a business mogul). While on the job, Tasya as Colin begins to see and feel strange things while also losing herself in the host (who is in turn losing himself).

Like father, like son. Brandon Cronenberg (the son of cult filmmaker David Cronenberg) takes on writing and directing duties here and the result is a psychological sci-fi body horror film that is reminiscent of his father’s own work. Make no mistake though, Brandon Cronenberg has crafted a unique film that feels very much like his own work and not something that feels like a rip-off. And what a messed up, freaky, violent work it is! “Possessor” is certainly not for everyone (seriously, it’s deranged), but for those seeking something fresh in a year devoid of new releases, this might be up your alley. It’s a very visual and cerebral story about identity that puts a new spin on body possession and assassin films. It’s a real head trip (pun intended).

The cast is stellar across the board. Andrea Riseborough continues to show versatility with yet another out of the norm role. The film also boasts memorable performances from Christopher Abbott, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Sean Bean, and Tuppence Middleton. I won’t say if Sean Bean dies again though!

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1 1080p. How does it look? The very visual film dazzles in 1080p with its striking colors.

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? Expect a quality 5.1 track.

Extras:
* Well Go USA trailers
* Green Band, Red Band and Uncut “Possessor” trailers
* 3 deleted scenes
* A 3 part behind the scenes featurette about the story, visuals, characters, and practical FX.
