Star Wars Adventures Issue 23 Comic Book Review

“Star Wars Adventures” #23 is half good.

“Star Wars Adventures” issue 23 Comic Book kicks off with an Ian Flynn scripted story titled “A Race For Answers.” The post “Return of the Jedi” story finds Chewie and Lando still on the Millennium Falcon. They enter a battle-race in order to contact an informant about information on pirates, but they wind up running into an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Fans of “Star Wars” are sure to get a kick out of this one. Between the colorful animated series/cartoon caricature art by Tony Fleecs and the surprise character appearances from films and canon, it’s hard not to crack a smile while reading this fun little adventure.

The second story here is “Tales From Wild Space: Majordomo, Major Problems” by writer Arie Kaplan which finds Emil telling a story about appreciating people in our lives that we often take for granted. The story in question revolves around Jabba The Hutt and Bib Fortuna. More specifically, it’s about Bib wanting a break after Jabba runs him ragged.

While I’m always down to see more Jabba and Bib Fortuna, I don’t feel like this story is in character. Jabba would never act this way. He’s a ruthless gangster who wants everyone to do his bidding. The art by Drew Moss is also inconsistent. Bib looks a bit wonky visually but other characters (like Jabba) and the environments are well drawn.

The comic concludes with a “Dispatches From Wild Space” piece with Emil answering a letter and a spotlight on Shriv. A cover art gallery and IDW comic ads are also included as per usual.
