Star Wars: Who’s Who In The Galaxy Book Review
Kids will find much to enjoy about “Star Wars: Who’s Who In The Galaxy.”
“Star Wars: Who’s Who In The Galaxy” is a character storybook aimed at the 6-8 age group. Written by Ella Patrick, the book is comprised of character profiles, illustrations, and plot summaries of each of the 8 saga films (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story” are not included). Certain keywords (such as Jedi) are also defined. The films’ story summaries are told via the character profiles (sometimes) along with full page illustrations which highlight pivotal moments ala the duel between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul, Luke coming across Leia’s holographic message, and the Crait battle in ‘Last Jedi.’
The illustrations by Leigh Zieske, Pilot Studio and PowerStation are on point here. The characters and scene depictions are essentially animated versions that are similar but not identical to the “Galaxy of Adventures” style.
In terms of the book’s content, it’s obviously aimed at a younger demographic and, as such, isn’t overly detailed. For instance, the Zam Wesell profile merely states “Zam Wesell is a bounty hunter who is trying to hunt Padme!” There’s nothing about her species or shapeshifting abilities. It’s all pretty basic stuff. Additionally, not every character is highlighted in each film. Boba Fett is not even mentioned in the Episode 2 section although he is mentioned for the Episode 5 and 6 sections. With all of that said, Patrick still does a commendable job of covering the basics of the saga films while also introducing young readers to the core characters of these films. Ultimately, that is the purpose of the book, is it not?
