Cinderella: Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Review

The Disney animated classic gets a new home video release.

I’m sure you all know the story of “Cinderella.” It’s the rags to riches story of a young woman (the titular character) who is forced into servitude by her wicked stepmother after her father passes away. The lonely Cinderella spends her days doing chores and serving her stepmother and her 2 rotten daughters while she talks to animals and dreams of a better life. When the Grand Duke throws a ball for his son The Prince in order to find him a lover, a Fairy Godmother and her trusted animal pals try to help Cinderella get a better life.

Like so many of Disney’s animated films, “Cinderella” is a timeless classic. So much of the story is forever a part of pop culture history be it the pumpkin coach, the glass slippers, the characters, the iconic songs that will never leave your memory (namely “The Work Song” and “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo”), the simple but heartfelt and magical story, and the sheer artistry of the animation that still amazes to this very day.

Throughout the 74 minute runtime, however, I couldn’t help but wish there was a bit more human characterization. It would have been nice to see The Prince have, well, any sort of characterization as he is barely on screen. Far too much time is devoted to the animal characters such as Lucifer the cat and the mice Gus and Jaq. While there antics can be entertaining and undoubtedly appealing to younger audiences, it often feels like a distraction from the main storyline.

Presentation: 1.33:1 1080p. How does it look? The Blu-ray edition of the classic Technicolor animated film will wow you. The colors are so rich that it’s like watching the film anew.

Audio Track: 7.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? The film’s audio more depth than ever with this 7.1 track.
