Star Wars Adventures Issue 13 Comic Book Review
Max Rebo!
Issue 13 of “Star Wars Adventures” concludes the “Intermission” story (which is written by Elsa Charretier and Pierrick Colinet). In this second part, Anakin and Padme discover Madam Synata has ties Separatist ties and is plotting something horrific against the Senators that are against the Separatists.
Storywise, I have no complaints. It’s a fun little Anakin/Padme adventure that actually ties in quite well to the political chaos engulfing the galaxy at that point in the timeline. There’s also a fantastic nod to Ralph McQuarrie if you know your concept art history. Art wise, the combo of artist Elsa Charretier and colorist Sarah Stern still doesn’t quite work for me. It all looks a bit choppy and blocky. I can’t help but want more especially given the scope of the story and the level of detail that could be involved.
The second story included here is “Tales From Wild Space: The Blue Brothers” although it also says it’s called “Mistaken Identity” so I’m unclear as to the actual title. Regardless, it’s a very fast-caped story about Emil telling a story about being wrongfully accused of stealing. The story involves Jabba’s Palace band leader Max Rebo who is mistaken for his brother Azool who is in a heap of trouble for theft. Nick Brokenshire takes on double duties here as the writer and artist. The story is very straight forward but it’s just fun to see Rebo again. The art, on the other hand, is exquisite. There’s so much going on in each frame. I love the detailed backgrounds, the attention to character designs, the lived in universe feel, etc. More art by him, please!
As per usual, the comic concludes with a “Dispatches From Wild Space” piece which contains Emil answering a letter and a Max Rebo spotlight along with a cover art gallery and IDW comic ads.
