Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny- Rey Comic Book Review
“Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny- Rey” doesn’t offer up much in the way of new content.
In the second issue of IDW’s new “Star Wars: Forces Of Destiny” one-shot comic book series, the story focuses on Rey. Unfortunately, aside from a few moments, the content is not new here.
The first chunk of Jody Houser’s story finds Rey on Jakku where she first meets BB-8 and must protect him from a junk eating Nightwatcher worm. If this story sounds familiar, that’s because it’s an adaptation of the “Forces of Destiny” animated short “Sands of Jakku.” The rest of the story (aside from some new scenes that tie everything together) is an adaptation of “BB-8 Bandits” with Rey protecting BB-8 from Teedo and scavengers. As per usual, the comic concludes with “Star Wars” and IDW comic ads.
After the poignant original Leia centric first issue, the second issue is a veritable disappointment given that these stories have already been done in animated form. Personally, I don’t see the purpose of recycling the stories for comic book form, but it is what it is. The one aspect that is an improvement over the animated series, however, is Arianna Florean’s art. The style really fits the comic page and, truth be told, I wish this style would have been what we saw in animation form.
