Buffy The Vampire Slayer Encyclopedia: The Ultimate Guide To The Buffyverse Book Review
“Buffy The Vampire Slayer Encyclopedia: The Ultimate Guide To The Buffyverse” is a worthy tribute to the beloved cult franchise.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of one of the best TV series of all time (although it’s technically the 25th anniversary of Buffy since the film was released in 1992), writers Nancy Holder and Lisa A. Clancy have crafted an A to Z encyclopedia of characters (like The Gentlemen), items, places, spells, events (like my personal favorite Slayerfest ’98) and even bands (Dingoes Ate My Baby 4 Life) from “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” as well as numerous canonical comic book series. As one might expect, main characters such as Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow, Lorne, Giles, and so on get their own spotlight and mini-history re-cap. Fans can also expect to see photographs and sidebars about such topics as Pylean words, Sunnydale High School staff members, season breakdowns, and available comic books referenced in these pages.
Instead of making a reference book that is overly crammed with information and or cheesy in-universe articles or what have you, “Buffy The Vampire Slayer Encyclopedia: The Ultimate Guide To The Buffyverse” is a straight forward coffee table reference book. If you can’t remember the entire timeline of Angelus, you’ll find it here. If you wanted more details about the comic book characters, it’s in these blood splattered pages (a very cool design to be sure). Yes, some fans may take umbrage with the fact that comic book material is included here, but it is nice to see a book that is all encompassing.
If you’re a hardcore fan, it’s unlikely you will find anything enlightening here as it’s all material that is probably common knowledge to Buffyverse fans. However, casual fans and or collectors will no doubt be drawn to this well made reference book.
