Daredevil Season 2 Blu-ray Review

TV shows don’t get much better than “Daredevil.”

In the 13 episode second season of the Marvel Netflix series, there are two main storylines. The first involves a vigilante gunning down gangs. The vigilante in question is, of course, The Punisher. The second arc further explores The Hand and brings the iconic character Elektra into the mix. Of course, there are other subplots intertwined involving the Yakuza, Ninjas, the dynamic between Foggy and Matt Murdock, and the relationship between Karen Page and Matt Murdock.

The first season of “Daredevil” changed the game. It launched the thrilling Marvel Netflix universe, it rebooted Daredevil successfully, it focused on character, it took itself seriously while also having fun, and it managed to create a gritty, grounded, and adult comic book series. While season 1 is still the cream of the crop of the Marvel Netflix series thus far, there’s absolutely no drop off in season 2. This season really has everything you could want. There’s intense action (see the Daredevil chain sequence and the brutal Punisher jail fight), there are surprises and returning characters, there’s romance (see Matt Murdock’s life), there’s the introduction of the Punisher (they finally got the character right!), there’s an exploration of opposing ideologies (Daredevil and Punisher’s), and Elektra is at long last brought into the fold. It’s just a flat out satisfying season (and series) that gets everything right. Season 3 cannot come fast enough.

Part of what makes “Daredevil” works so well is the cast. Charlie Cox is so underrated as Daredevil and Matt Murdock. He makes everything seem so effortless. Jon Bernthal (of “The Walking Dead” fame) crushes it as Punisher. He was born to play this role. It’s no wonder the character is getting his own series in a few short months. The rest of the cast is also pitch perfect. You can’t imagine anyone other than Elden Henson playing Foggy Nelson, Elodie Yung came into the limelight with her impressive performance as Elektra, and the always charming Deborah Ann Woll continues to shine as Karen Page. I could go on and on about other cast members, but I don’t want to spoil who else shows up this season.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1 1080p. How does it look? The dark and gritty series shines in 1080p.

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it look? The action, dialogue and the great score sound crisp and clear here.

No extras have been included.

Overall Thoughts: If you don’t have Netflix, if you love physical media, or are a Marvel or Daredevil fan, this is a must buy set.
