The Love Boat Season 3 Volume 2 DVD Review

Expect more of the same with “The Love Boat” season 3 volume 2.

If you haven’t had your fill of “The Love Boat” with season 3 volume 1, you’re in luck! The 11 episode (technically 12 with the 2 parter) season 3 volume 2 DVD set contains more cruise ship adventure with Captain Stubing, Doc, Gopher, Isaac, Julie, and a massive amount of guest stars. In this set, expect to see stories involving a quarreling screenwriter couple, singers in separate episodes (played by Charo and Donny Osmond), flooded crew quarters, Doc’s love interest and her emotional sister, the Captain’s brother, Julie’s aunt, Gopher’s mother, a romance between a comic and a reporter, a journalist and his nun friend,  a stowaway, a mobster, his daughter and her husband, more stories involving Vicki (the Captain’s daughter), a lawyer in love with a colleague, Doc swearing off women, and much more.

If you’ve seen one episode of “The Love Boat” you’ve pretty much seen them all as this formulaic soap opera drama has little in the way of surprises. The series is filled with romance, drama, and passenger stories of the week (some of which seem out of the blue). It’s standard old school primetime television material.

One thing this portion of season 3 does have, however, is star power. Viewers can expect to see the likes of Charo, Pam Grier, Donny Osmond, Don Adams, Vikci Lawrence, Florence Henderson, Hayley Mills, David Hasselhoff, Martin Short, Robert Guillaume Joe Namath, and tons more. It’s a veritable whose who of Hollywood at the time to be sure. Even though “The Love Boat” isn’t exactly my type of TV to say the least, it is always fun to see which stars will pop up in the next episode.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 4:3. How does it look? The transfers are solid enough although the “Invisible Maniac/September Song/Peekaboo” episode looks really faded for some reason.

Audio Track: Dolby Digital Mono. How does it sound? The Mono track is exactly what you’d expect it to be.

Extras:
* Episode promos.
* “Home And Family: The Love Boat- Come Aboard”- An episode of the Hallmark Channel show that features a “The Love Boat” Q&A cast reunion and a craft making segment.
* “Home And Family: The Love Boat- We’re Expecting You”- Another reunion show segment from the show that features “The Love Boat” cast members cooking, mixing drinks, and talking about romance. Look for a special appearance by Charo.
