Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom Blu-ray Review

Lego DC Comics Super Heroes- Justice League- Attack of the Legion of Doom Blu-ray

“Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom” is more cringe worthy than entertaining.

The story: With the Justice League putting a damper on various supervillain’s evil plans, Lex Luthor, Black Manta, and Sinestro band together to form the Legion of Doom. Knowing he needs help, Lex (who is having secret meetings with Darkseid) recruits Cheetah, Gorilla Grodd, and Captain Cold to aid the Legion. With the Legion assembled,  Lex plots to get back at the Justice League (comprised of Batman, Superman, Cyborg, Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern) by stealing a powerful alien known as J’onn J’onzz (AKA Martian Manhunter). With Manhunter on their side, the Legion now has the upper hand on the Justice League, but will their reign of terror last?

For those hoping for another clever Lego special in the vein of “Lego Batman: The Movie- DC Super Heroes Unite” or even the video games, I’m afraid you’ll have to keep waiting. “Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom” (try saying that five times fast) is another childish, watered down animated film similar to “Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League” which was released earlier this year. While better than the atrocious ‘Bizarro’ film, ‘Legion’ is still cluttered with nauseating puns, dopey humor (see the evil laughs, New 52, and dancing jokes), and an absolutely embarrassing depiction of Cyborg. Really, the only saving grace here is a surprise cameo by the Trickster (who is voiced by Mark Hamill!).

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1 1080p. How does it look? Say what you will about this Lego movie, but the CGI animation impresses (especially in 1080p).

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? There’s a lot going on in this track with all of the sound f/x, action sequences, dialogue, and music. A hearty thumbs up for this DTS track.

Extras:
* DVD copy and digital copy.
* Legoland coupon and a digital copy for “JLA Adventures: Trapped In Time.”
* Warner Bros. trailers.
* “Click, Zap, Boom! Creating The Sound Design”- The title of this 20 minute featurette says it all.
Overall Thoughts: With a set-up for a third film, I’m afraid it looks like this Lego DC Comics Super Heroes franchise will continue. Hopefully, they will restructure it at some point because DC fans deserve better than this.
