Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero- The Complete Series Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack Review

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero- The Complete Series Blu-ray-DVD Combo Pack

“Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero” is pure rubbish.

In the 12 episode anime series “Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero,” the story revolves around a cocky perverted rogue hero (Akatsuki) who defeats the Dark Lord in Alayzard and returns home to Earth with Miu (a pink haired Princess/daughter of the Dark Lord). What follows are a bunch of subplots that include the BABEL high school for magic students, a powerful student named Kyoya, a cockatrice, other students (such as Haruka, Kuzuha and Chikage), Akatsuki and Miu bonding, special powers that develop from being in Alayzard, an Alayzard Emperor and his cronies searching for Miu, a fighting tournament, a knight (Phil), poison, a dragon, and the mysterious COCOON organization.

“Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero” is the type of series that can give an anime a bad reputation. It’s an intellectually devoid magical-fantasy comedy filled with shameless gratuitous fanservice and brainless action. While some viewers may find the whimsical Harry Potter esque magic moments to be charming, the series offers very little of merit. You’ve seen this type of series before and the story brings nothing new to the table. About the only positive thing I can say here is the fact that there isn’t a second season (despite the open ended ending of episode 12).

Video/Audio:

Presentation: Widescreen 1080p. How does it look? The animation nothing to ride home about nor is the hi-def transfer which is barely better than that of a DVD.

Audio Tracks: English and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0. How does it sound? 5.1 tracks would have been preferable here as the English and Japanese 2.0 tracks are rather flat.

Extras:
* Trailers for “Aquarion Evol,” “Oniai,” “Maken-Ki!,” “Good Luck Girl!,” “We Without Wings,” “Ikki Tousen,” “Is This A Zombie? Of The Dead,” “Dragon Ball Z,” Anime Classics, and Funimation.com.
* A giggle and shout filled commentary on episode 2 by Alexis Tipton, Monica Rial, and Felecia Angelle. Discussions range from careers to voices. Skip it.
*5 promotional videos for “Aesthetica Of A Rogue Hero” and promo vids for the characters of Akatsuki, Haruka, and Miu.
* Textless opening and closing songs and a U.S. trailer for ‘Aesthetica.’
* 6 original videos. These are just largely comedic and fanservice filled animated shorts featuring characters from ‘Aesthetica.’
* A lighthearted and entertaining commentary on episode 8 by Joel McDonald, Ryan Reynolds, and Eric Vale. The three talk about pseudonyms, voice acting, and boobs.
