Hit By Lightning DVD Review
“Hit By Lightning” is about as funny as being hit by lightning.
Ricky is a middle aged man who is tired of being single and lonely. Out of desperation for love, he decides to sign up for a dating website to see if he can find his soul mate. As luck would have it, he winds up meeting his dream girl (Danita) off the site. Unfortunately, this dream girl is too good to be true as she’s a married woman. However, Ricky learns that she’s in an unhappy marriage with an apparently psychotic famous author (Ben). As if that wasn’t enough, Ricky discovers that Danita wants her husband dead. After weighing his options, Ricky and his trusted pal Seth agree to kill Ben. Is Ben really as evil as Danita makes him out to be or is Danita the femme fatale?
“Hit By Lightning” is the type of rom com you’d find in the bargain bin section of your local store. It’s a truly tedious comedy that is as painfully unfunny as an episode of “Two and a Half Men.” There’s simply nothing remotely unique or inventive about the script at all unless you’ve never seen a film that has dealt with love, murder, mid-life issues, loneliness, and friendship before.
As for the performances, Jon Cryer is his usual bumbling self here. Why he decided to star in this is the greatest mystery of all. Will Sasso is as annoying as ever as Ricky’s friend Seth. The underrated Stephanie Szostak gives the best performance here, but she has little to do.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: 1.78:1. How does it look? For a low budget indie, the film is surprisingly sharp looking.
Audio Track: Dolby Digital 5.1. How does it sound? Between the dialogue and the cheesy songs that sound like they were from “The Room,” this DD track handles everything quite well.
The only extras here are trailers for Anchor Bay titles
