Cartoon Network Holiday Collection DVD Review

Cartoon Network Holiday Collection DVD

‘Tis the season for some cartoons with “Cartoon Network Holiday Collection.”

Warner Brothers is getting into the holiday spirit with a new Christmas themed DVD release comprised of two “Adventure Time” episodes, a “Regular Show” episode, and an episode of “The Amazing World of Gumball.”

First up on this set is two season 3 episodes of “Adventure Time” titled “Holly Jolly Secrets” Parts 1 and 2. This two-part adventure revolves around Finn and Jake coming across video tapes that led to a major discovery about the Ice King’s past. If you enjoy “Adventure Time,” this is a crucial character centric storyline for the series.

Next up is the season 4 “Regular Show” episode titled “The Christmas Special” which involves Santa, Mordecai and Rigby on an important quest, Santa, and an evil elf. I won’t spoil how all these elements plays together. Since I already admire the eccentric “Regular Show,” this was easily the best of the 4 episodes to me.

Lastly there’s the “The Amazing World of Gumball” episode simply titled “Christmas.” This episode finds the Wattersons family encountering Santa. Despite the inspired choice of having Santa voiced by veteran actor Brian Blessed, I can’t quite invest in this oddball toon.

As far as bonus features are concerned, you get “Adventure Time,” “The Amazing World of Gumball,” and “Regular Show” ads and two bonus episodes. There’s the arcade centric “Money Broom Wizard” episode of “Clarence” and a “Steven Universe” episode called “Together Breakfast.” While not a Christmas themed episode, I was pleasantly surprised by “Clarence.” While a bit stereotypical, I was amused by the joyous arcade outing storyline. As for “Steven Universe,” the less said about it the better.

Note: The episodes are presented in widescreen with a Dolby Digital 2.0 track.
