C. Montgomery Burns’ Handbook of World Domination Book Review

Fans of “The Simpsons” will get a kick out of “C. Montgomery Burns’ Handbook of World Domination”.

Written by “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, “C. Montgomery Burns’ Handbook of World Domination” is the latest entry in the ongoing Vault of Simpsonology line of books. So, what exactly is contained in this non-narrative book? To put it simply, lots of humorous jokes and numerous collectible goodies.

Upon opening the first page, you are immediately greeted by a folder containing 4 stickers and a 3D mini poster. As if that weren’t enough, you also get a folder containing Burnsisms! cards in the back of the book. These are all fun little additions (especially if you’re an avid collector of “The Simpsons” merchandise).

As far as the content goes, it’s essentially a comedic guide to the beloved villainous character that is Mr. Burns. There’s an introduction by Burns, various lists (like a bucket list), Burns’ secrets to a long life, pop-up pictures, a clever Fruit Bat Man mini comic, a CMB Network program guide (I’d watch “Freaks and Leaks”), cosplay pics, a family album fold out, a detailed look at his office, Burns’ various companies, company memos, the contents of his bookshelf, the anatomy of his body (Shudder), his haircut styles (the Matt Groening one is a riot), bumper stickers, info about the Stonecutters Secret Society (love the Ed. Begley Jr. bit), a look at some of his employees, and a whimsical “What Would Mr. Burns Do?” quiz. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Mr. Burns book without Smithers being featured as well.

For those expecting a long, detailed history about Mr. Burns, that’s not what you’ll get here. Instead, this ‘Handbook’ is a fun, quirky, quick read that serves as a loving tribute to the iconic character. Admittedly, not every joke or visual gag works here, but you’ll have so much fun pouring over this book that you won’t mind it. Recommended.
