Gossip Girl Season 6 DVD Review

Gossip Girl Season 6 DVD

The final season of “Gossip Girl” is strictly for the fans and no one else.

In the 10 episode sixth and final season, fans of the CW drama can expect more of the same twists and turns in this trashy soap opera about Upper East Side New Yorkers. Among the key storylines here are: Serena missing, Nate (who is running The Spectator) publishing Dan’s article, Blair putting on a fashion show, Chuck investigating his father, Bart hiding a secret, a character death, the reveal of the Gossip Girl, a wedding, and character hook-ups.

If you were on board with this show from the beginning, chances are that you will want to see how it all ends if for no other reason than to see who the Gossip Girl is. While I have had no interest in this show personally (and was rather shocked that it went on as long as it has), I have to admit the final season does wrap things up in a satisfactory manner. The series finale (“New York, I Love You XOXO”) in particular is a memorable send-off that contains a clever cameo (Kristen Bell), character resolutions, character growth, romance, and the answer to the burning question of who the Gossip Girl is. It’s easy for a show to slip-up in the series finale (COUGH “Lost” COUGH), but when it’s all over and done with, “Gossip Girl” feels complete. Fans of the show can’t ask for much more than that.

Video/Audio:

The series, which is presented in widescreen, is not going to wow anyone, but it looks like a typical TV show on DVD (which is to say it’s nothing special).

The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track delivers sharp sounding music and dialogue.

Extras:
* A free download for the “Gossip Girl” prequel audiobook “It Had To Be You.”
*A 3 ½ minute gag reel.
* Deleted scenes from “Portrait Of A Lady Alexander” and “Save The Last Chance.”
* “A Big Farewell To Our Upper East Siders”- The cast and crew reminisce about the show and the characters for this 15 minute featurette.
* “Gossip Girl Series Retrospective”- The title says it all.

Summary: “Gossip Girl” had a very niche audience, but those devoted fans should be pleased by the series final ten episodes.
