Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace Blu-ray Review

“Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace” is a delightful special that will appeal to “Star Wars” fans of all ages.

The plot: A group of Jedi Younglings, Yoda, C3PO, R2-D2, and a young Han Solo (AKA Ian) wind up in a wacky series of adventures involving stolen secret battle plans, battle droid attacks, and Jabba The Hutt.

“Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace” can best be described as “Robot Chicken” for kids. Like ‘Chicken,’ this is a light hearted, gag-a-second 22 minute comedic romp set in the “Star Wars” universe only this one is actually family friendly. There’s no adult humor to be found here. Instead, viewers are treated to amusing gags involving Jar Jar Binks, Darth Vader and George Lucas, Tusken Raiders, Admiral Ackbar, the Senate, Yoda’s speech and plenty of clever character and spaceship easter eggs.

While some “Star Wars” fans may frown upon humorous takes on the universe, I find it to be a refreshing change of pace. I like seeing different approaches to storytelling in the SW universe because there’s so much to explore. Personally, I would love to see more specials like this. There’s so much potential with this comedic Lego series and there’s definitely many, many stories that can be told using this style.

Summary: Buy “Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace,” you must.

Note: This set is only available at Walmart and Walmart.com

The 1.78:1 1080p picture quality is flat-out gorgeous. The CGI animation is absolutely first rate here. Everything from the droids to the vehicles are detailed and extremely well animated.

In typical SW fashion, this 5.1 DTS-HD audio track is filled with wonderful (and iconic) sound f/x as well as fantastic voice work by the likes of Anthony Daniels and Tom Kane.

* DVD copy
* Ian/Han Solo Lego figure.
* The 2 part “Star Wars” in 2 minutes. The entire story of the 6 SW films is told via legos and narration in 4 minutes.

* “The Clone Wars Animated Comics”- An enjoyable series of animated Lego stories that clock in at nearly 13 minutes. The stories mainly focus on the Clone Troopers, Anakin, Ventress, R2-D2, and Obi-Wan.
* ‘The Quest For R2-D2”- A cute nearly 6 minute animated wordless Lego adventure in which R2-D2 is separated from the Jedi.
* “Bombad Bounty”- An amusing 5 animated Lego adventure featuring a clumsy Jar Jar Binks being hunted down by Boba Fett.
