Life As We Know It Blu-ray Review

“Life As We Know It” is a predictable and groan worthy romantic dramedy.

The plot: After the parents of a baby daughter tragically pass away, two of the parent’s friends (Holly and Eric) are chosen to be the baby’s legal guardians (as expressed in their will). Of course, both Holly and Eric are woefully unprepared to raise a kid. It doesn’t help that Holly and Eric dislike each other as well. Can the two put aside their differences and raise a child? Will Holly and Eric grow closer to one another?

Aside from the hilarious Judd Apatow comedy “Knocked Up,” Katherine Heigl has had a horrendous track record when it comes to feature films. All of the films (especially “The Ugly Truth”) she has starred in are just downright insufferable. Her latest starring vehicle, “Life As We Know It,” can now be added to that list as well.

I realize this film has a built-in audience, but for me, watching nearly 2 hours of Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel arguing with a baby crying in the background is not my idea of a good time. In fact, it’s downright painful. It doesn’t help that the film’s attempts at humor involve cringe-worthy jokes about a smart car, baby puke, a Keanu Reeves baby song, pot brownies, and dirty diapers. And to think this is meant to be escapism entertainment…

Summary: My advice? Avoid “Life As We Know It”.

Video/Audio:

The 2.4:1 1080p picture quality is decent. Again, this is another disc with some odd oversaturated color issues. Skin tones have a noticeably strange orange like glow to them. Other than that, everything else looks up to Blu-ray standards.

The 5.1 DTS-HD audio track is solid. This is a dialogue driven film and there isn’t much going on sound wise.

Extras:
* Warner trailers.
* Nearly 15 minutes of deleted scenes.
* “A Survival Guide To Instant Parenting”- Cast and crew members talk about what it is like to be a parent.
* Digital copy.

* “Josh Duhamel: The Triplet Tamer”- A featurette about the triplets that play Sophie as well as Josh Duhamel’s bond with the children
* “Katherine Heigl: Becoming The Best Mom Ever”- Heigl chats about the film as well as her what it was like becoming a character.
