Nip/Tuck Season 6 DVD Review

“Nip/Tuck” goes out with a whimper in the final season.

In the 19 episode sixth and final season of “Nip/Tuck,” quite a lot happens. Stories involve Christian and Liz divorcing, a marriage between Sean and Teddy, economy issues hurting the McNamara/Troy business, Christian suffering from insomnia, Matt becoming a mime, murder/death, a new surgeon named Mike, a shocking suicide, pregnancy, the return of Ava Moore, a lifetime achievement award, further exploration of Christian and Sean’s friendship/partnership, therapy sessions, and, of course, surgeries involving everything from Christian getting a facelift to reconstructive surgery. You can also expect guest appearances by such actors and actresses as Mario Lopez, Rose McGowan, and Melanie Griffith.

For four seasons, “Nip/Tuck” was an addicting guilty pleasure TV show. It was fresh, funny, exciting, and ballsy to say the least. Unfortunately, when season 5 rolled around and Sean, Christian and company moved to L.A., the show quickly fell apart. Season 6 is no exception and, in fact, is even worse then the previous season. I hate to say it, but “Nip/Tuck” simply stopped being a fun must-see TV show. Instead, the plots have become tired and recycled and, worst of all, the characters are so miserable that it pains me to watch. I understand putting characters in dangerous situations, but completely ruining the character’s lives is not something any fan of the show wants to see.

Adding further insult, the series finale proved to be a yawn worthy affair. I understand providing some closure for the characters, but the finale was so pedestrian for such a wild show like “Nip/Tuck”. I guess it’s just further proof as to how far the show has fallen.

Summary: My advice? Watch the first four seasons and stop there.

The widescreen picture quality is a bit fuzzy (as with past releases), but overall it looks solid. Likewise, the Dolby Digital 5.1 contains clear sounding music, dialogue, and sound f/x.

The only extra is a featurette titled “Tell Me What You Don’t Like About Yourself- Behind Plastic Surgery” which contains interviews with surgeons and discussions about the profession.
