The Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day Blu-ray Review

Unless you are a fan of “The Boondock Saints,” there is absolutely no reason to see this dreadful sequel.

The plot: The MacManus brothers are brought out of hiding to seek revenge against a killer who has framed them for murder. Additionally, a smart, mysterious FBI agent named Eunice is investigating the recent crimes which could complicate matters for the brothers.

Since its release, the first “Boondock Saints” the film has garnered a large devoted cult following and it has also garnered many detractors as well. Personally, I never got the appeal of the first film, but I went into the sequel with an open mind. Unfortunately, the sequel is even worse than the first.

Unless you are a ‘Boondock’ fan, there are no redeeming qualities in this sequel. The direction is flashy and pretentious, the music score and songs are distracting, the film is overlong, the acting is cheesy, the humor is cringe worthy, the characters are cartoony, and the dialogue is horrendous and filled with cheap cursing lines/gags. I really couldn’t wait for it to end.

Summary: “The Boondock Saints 2” is purely for the fans.

The 2.35:1 1080p picture quality is the best thing about this disc. The film looks quite sharp on Blu.

The 5.1 DTS-HD audio track is fine when it comes to the action, but the music score and songs drown out the dialogue in certain spots.

Extras:
* MovieIQ- A BD-Live trivia track of sorts.
* Sony trailers.
* 2 deleted scenes.
* Two commentary tracks. One with Troy Duffy, Norman Reedus, Billy Connolly and Sean Patrick Flanery and one with Troy Duffy and Willem Dafoe.
* “Unprecedented Access: Behind The Scenes”- A collection of behind the scenes footage including interviews with the cast and crew.
* Billy Connolly And Troy Duffy: Unedited”- The two chat together.
* “The Cast Confesses: Secrets From The Set”- Interviews with the cast.
* “Inside The Vault: The Weapons”- A featurette on the guns in the film.

* “The Boondock Saints Hit Comic-Con.” A look at the cast and director/writer at San Diego Comic Con. I liked this extra more than the movie itself.
