10 Things I Hate About You Blu-ray Review

“10 Things I Hate About You” is a cartoony, but entertaining teen flick.

As fellow reviewer Andrea already reviewed this title, I’m not going to go into great depth about the plot. Basically, the film is a modern day retelling of Shakespeare’s classic “The Taming Of The Shrew” only it’s set in high school. While the film is a bit outdated and has some overly cartoony moments (such as the perverted principal and a random flashing a teacher scene), ‘10’ is still a cut above most teen films in the past decade thanks to an great “before they were stars” cast. Among those featured in the movie are Julia Stiles, Gabrielle Union, the criminally underrated Larisa Oleynik, David Krumholtz, Joseph Gordon Levitt and the late great Heath Ledger in the film that made him a star. The entire cast shines here and their talents and chemistry together truly make the film stand out.

The 1.85:1 1080p picture quality is sadly lacking. This is one of the weaker transfers I’ve seen lately. The print is littered with artifacts and dirt specs. It looks more like a barely upgraded DVD to be honest.

The 5.1 DTS-HD audio track is a bit soft but solid overall.

Extras: Disney trailers, a 35 minute featurette titled “10 Things I Love About 10 Things I Hate About You 10 Years Later” that covers everything from the script and characters to cast interviews, and a new commentary by Karen McCullahlutz, Kristen Smith, Andrew Keegan, Larisa Oleynik, Susan May Pratt, and David Krumholtz.
