For those wondering what UFC and Mixed Martial Arts is all about, allow me to alert you to this set. Here you will find 100 matches containing some of the best boxing, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, and wrestling work in the MMA as well as most of the sport’s best fighters such as Randy Couture, Anderson Silva, Matt Serra, Matt Hughes, Georges St-Pierre, and Chuck Liddell.

As far as the matches go, there is A LOT to admire here. The Florian/Lauzon was an intense battle from start to finish, the Gracie/Hughes match more than lived up to its hype, the Matt Serra and Georges St-Pierre fights are always fun to watch (especially when they fight each other), the Houston Alexander/Keith Jardine match was both amazing and surprising, and any match with the powerful all-star Randy Couture is worth watching. My favorites, however, have to be the incredible (albeit quick) match between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir, any fights with the dominating Anderson Silva and the explosive puncher Chuck Liddell, the brutal battle between Gonzaga and Cro Cop, and lastly, the number 1 ranked Bonnar/Griffin brawl that is certainly worthy of it’s ranking.

Another aspect that I really enjoyed about this set was seeing how both the UFC league and the fighters progressed over time. It’s especially entertaining to see fighters like the submission king Royce Gracie from past to present.

As great as these fights are, I do have a complaint. I felt there were several matches that should have been included such as the intense match between Matt Serra and Matt Hughes in UFC 98. I know this countdown consisted of fan votes, but some of these inclusions were questionable and there were far too many matches with the same bunch of fighters. It would have been nice to see more of other fighters like Michael Bisping.

Summary: While hardcore fans will no doubt want to stick to buying individual releases, new fans should check out this massive 26 hour plus set of great UFC action.

Picture And Sound:

Presented in 1080i, the 100 matches vary in quality as there are some classic fights from UFC 1 to a match in the more recent UFC 98. Naturally, the older matches (presented fullscreen) look a bit grainy, but the more recent events (presented in widescreen) look incredibly sharp.

Like the picture quality, the 2.0 audio track varies in quality. The older events have weaker sound, but the more recent matches sound really clear. Mostly, the sound consists of the commentators, crowd, and the fighters in the octagon.

The only extra is the 5 part Ultimate 100 Countdown Show. This is a countdown of the top 100 matches that appear on this disc. The special is hosted by Mike Goldberg. Along with clips of the fights, interviews with fighters, Dana White, Joe Rogan etc. are included.

  1. There reason there are no matches featuring Gina Carano is that she has never fought in the UFC. There is no women’s division in the UFC.
