Friday The 13th Part 2 4K UHD Review

“Friday The 13th Part 2” is one of the best entries in the slasher franchise.
Written by Ron Kurz, the sequel takes place 5 years after the events of “Friday The 13th.” After a prologue involving Alice from the first part, the sequel kicks into gear with a group of counselors in training at a camp near Crystal Lake being terrorized by the now adult Jason Voorhees. That’s really all you need to know.
Previously released on 4K through the Paramount Scares Volume 2 box set, “Friday The 13th Part 2” is now receiving a stand-alone 4K release. Why Paramount hasn’t just released a 4K box set yet is beyond me, but hopefully it’s coming sooner rather than later.
The second installment in the Friday The 13th franchise is even better than the first. Jason doesn’t sport his hockey mask in this one (that’s not until the third entry), but we get Baghead Jason as he is so often known. The story follows a similar pattern as the first one, but with more vicious kills, more characters (including fan favorites like Amy Steel’s Ginny, the return of Crazy Ralph, and Ted), and even a bit of a psychological dive into the mind of Jason.
Director Steve Miner is really the key factor here to the film’s success. The filmmaker is no stranger to the horror world having directed “Warlock,” “Halloween H20,” and the subsequent “Friday The 13th Part 3.” He has a real understanding of how to pace a horror film and ratchet up the tension and scares.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: 1.85:1 2160p. How does it look? The print maintains the grain while offering up sharper image quality and brighter colors. Fans will be pleased by the results.
Audio Track: 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. How does it sound? The iconic Harry Manfredini score really pops here alongside the rest of the audio.
