Bride Hard Blu-ray Review

“Bride Hard” is one of the worst films of 2025.

Penned by Shaina Steinberg, “Bride Hard” is an action-comedy vehicle for Rebel Wilson that plays like a cross between “Die Hard” and “Bridesmaids” (which Rebel Wilson also starred in). The story begins in Paris where maid of honor (Sam) is throwing a bachelorette party for soon to be bride Betsy. Sam and Betsy were childhood best friends, but the two haven’t hung out much in their adult years. There’s a reason for that though as Sam is a secret agent. When Sam is called to intercept a bioweapon mid-bachelorette party, she comes back to find that she has been stripped of her maid of honor title. After that, Sam is unsure if she should attend Betsy’s wedding in Savannah, Georgia, but she winds up doing so. At first it seems like a bad idea as their friendship is clearly strained, but when a mercenary group invades the wedding and holds everyone hostage, it turns out to be a fortuitous situation as Sam might be the only hope to save everyone. If she’s lucky, Sam might even repair her friendship with Betsy and the other bridesmaids along the way.

Director Simon West (best known for “Con-Air” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”) has a history of helming action flicks. This is one he’d probably rather leave off his resume. From the opening moments, it was clear that “Bride Hard” was bound to be a disaster. The humor falls flat, Rebel Wilson is woefully miscast (more on that in a bit), the editing is clunky, the script is soulless tripe that feels like a disposable streaming movie, the soundtrack is full of blasting pop crap, and the film features some of the worst action scenes in recent memory (see the climactic chase scene). How this got made is perhaps the greatest mystery of all.

Going back to Rebel Wilson, she isn’t remotely convincing as a secret agent. Her action scenes are either super slow or feature some of the worst stunt doubles since “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.” The only saving grace here is that the rest of the cast is on point. You’ve got Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Anna Camp, Anna Chlumsky, Stephen Dorff, Justin Hartley, Sherry Cola, and Sam Huntington. None of them should be in this movie, but everyone needs a paycheck. The MVP here is Anna Camp. She is always dedicated to every part no matter how lousy the role may be.
