Crown Of Shadows DVD Review

“Crown Of Shadows” is pure dreck.
Directed by Richard Campbell, “Crown Of Shadows” is an indie fantasy film. The story is set in the Kingdom of Aberon which is ruled by Queen Ginnarra who serves the Dark Gods. Her brother Prince Elderon rebels against her and is being hunted by the Queen’s forces (and her son Prince Raymond). Elderon’s heart is still heavy as the Queen killed their father. With the help of allies, Elderon hopes to take out the Queen and end the darkness that is spreading throughout Aberon. Oh, and there are dragons thrown into the mix here and there (and bad CGI ones at that).
A lot of the flaws could be forgiven for “Crown Of Shadows” as it is an original cheaply made indie film. Unfortunately, this generic film commits so many cinematic sins that forgiveness is impossible. First and foremost, the film utilizes AI on numerous occasions. It is appalling and it looks even worse (especially the slow-motion shots). The CGI effects aren’t much better. There are better effects on random YouTube videos.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the movie runs 142 minutes. It would be one thing if this was an epic story, but it’s not. There is no depth to the characters or the plot. The Prince wanders around for a majority of the runtime while the Queen stares into spaces on numerous occasions. Every now and then you’ll get some godawful sword fight action. Add in the ultra bland no name cast and ridiculous chants that pop out of nowhere (such as “Hail To The Prophet” and “Death To The Heretic”) and you’ll likely find yourself in a world of hurt watching this one.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: 16:9. How does it look? The blurry and murky picture quality is among the worst transfers I have seen in recent memory.
Audio Track: Dolby Digital Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1. How does it sound? The audio fares MUCH better than the video quality. There was probably more care put into the sound than anything else in this movie.
