Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 1 Blu-ray Review

Cartoon heaven.

Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 1 had been a sought after out of print title, but thankfully it’s back in print now. This Blu-ray set release features 50 theatrical shorts from the 40’s and 50’s including “Hare Tonic,” “Baseball Bugs,” “Buccaneer Bunny,” “The Old Grey Hare,” “Rabbit Hood,” “8 Ball Bunny,” “Rabbit Of Seville,” “What’s Opera, Doc?,” “The Great Piggy Bank Robbery,” “A Pest In The House,” “The Scarlet Pumpernickel,” “Duck Amuck,” “Robin Hood Daffy,” “Baby Bottleneck,” “Kitty Kornered,” “Scaredy Cat,” “Porky Chops,” “Old Glory,” “A Tale Of Two Kitties,” “Tweetie Pie,” “Fast And Furry-Ous,” “Beep, Beep,” “Lovelorn Leghorn,” “For Scent-imental Reasons,” “Speedy Gonzales,” “One Froggy Evening,” “The Three Little Bops,” “I Love To Singa,” “Katnip Kollege,” “The Dover Boys At Pimento University,” “Chow Hound,” “Haredevil Hare,” “The Hasty Hare,” “Duck Dodgers In The 24 ½ Century,” “Hare-Way To The Stars,” “Mad As A Mars Hare,” “Devil May Hare,” “Bedevilled Rabbit,” “Ducking The Devil,” “Bill Of Hare,” “Dr. Devil And Mr. Hare,” “Bewitched Bunny,” “Broom-Stick Bunny,” “A Witch’s Tangled Hare,” “A-Haunting We Will Go,” “Feed The Kitty,” “Kiss Me Kat,” “Feline Frame-Up,” “From A To Z-Z-Z-Z,” and “Boyhood Daze.” The collection of “Looney Tunes” and “Merrie Melodies” cartoons features all of your favorite characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner, Marvin The Martian, Tasmanian Devil, Sylvester and Tweety, and much more.

If you were to pick up only one “Looney Tunes” set, this would be the one to go with as it features the cream of the crop. Nearly all of the renowned shorts are here such as the fiendishly clever “Duck Amuck,” the classic pair of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd short films “What’s Opera, Doc?” and “Rabbit Of Seville,” the first and arguably best Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner toon “Fast And Furry-ous,” and the hilarious Michigan J. Frog starring “One Froggy Evening.”

Of course, my personal favorite inclusions from this golden age of animation feature my personal favorite character Marvin The Martian. Ever since childhood, the alien character has brought me so much joy and, thankfully, this set offers up most of his best animated shorts like “Duck Dodgers In The 24 ½ Century,” “Haredevil Hare” (Marvin’s first toon), “Mad As A Mars Hare,” and “Hare-Way To The Stars.” You can’t forget about his sidekick K-9 either!

Whether you’re a Bugs Bunny enthusiast or someone who adores the entire catalogue of characters, there’s something for every “Looney Tunes” fan here. Platinum Collection Vol. 1 is as good as it gets for animated short films.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.33:1 1080p. How do they look? There are visible defects on the shorts from scratches to dirt, but the restorations are still beautifully done. The colors have never been more vibrant.

Audio Track: Dolby Digital 1.0. How do they sound? The lack of a higher quality audio track is a bummer to be sure, but this DD track still does the job.
