A Working Man 4K UHD Review

“A Working Man” is a run-of-the-mill action flick.

Based on the novel “Levon’s Trade” by Chuck Dixon, “A Working Man” is a 2025 action film penned by David Ayer and Sylvester Stallone. The story revolves around Levon Cade- a construction foreman and a former Royal Marine Commando. Levon works for a company run by the Garcia family whom he is close friends with. He’s also trying to gain custody of his daughter (Merry) who is staying with her father-in-law. When the Garcia family’s daughter (Jenny) is kidnapped by Russian traffickers, they approach Levon for help with a cash offer. He’s initially hesitant to revert to his former life, but decides to help his friend and boss out. As he embarks on the rescue mission, he discovers that the abduction is tied to a Russian mafia gang known as the Bratva. Levon will do anything to get her back no matter how many men the Bratva and his allies send to kill him.

Director David Ayer is no stranger to violent action films having helmed films like “The Beekeeper” and “Bright”. Now, he once again reteams with action star Jason Statham for a strangely generic action film that feels like an 80s throwback. If you like action films with endless gunplay, quips, bloody and grizzly death scenes, over-the-top villains (see Artemis), and a hero who is a one man wrecking machine, this movie is for you. If you’re looking for an action film that brings something new to the table, this is most definitely not for you. It’s a repetitive, overlong and cliched tale of a lead character returning to his past ways. The movie also has the distinction of getting worse by the minute. When you get bored by an action movie you know you’re doing something wrong. If you aren’t invested in the story or characters, your eyes will just glaze over the action no matter how impressively choreographed it may be.

“A Working Man” does have a few notable performances. Jason Statham is his usual reliable self as Levon. David Harbour is memorable in a small role as the blind friend/former Marine Gunny. Arianna Rivas also shines as Jenny.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 2.39:1 2160p. How does it look? Fans will be happy to know that this is a sharp looking 4K disc.

Audio Track: Dolby Atmos. How does it sound? The Atmos track is nothing short of thunderous. This is the way all action films should sound.

The lone extra is a Digital copy.
