Juror #2 Blu-ray Review

“Juror #2” is another winner from Clint Eastwood.
Set in Savannah, Georgia, this 2024 legal thriller penned by Jonathan Abrams revolves around a young man named Justin Kemp. Justin (a former alcoholic) is married to Ally and the two are expecting a child together. One day, Justin is called into Jury Duty and is horrified to learn that he may be involved in the case. The case concerns the death of a woman named Kendall. Her boyfriend James is being charged for her murder. The couple had a highly toxic, abusive, and dysfunctional relationship and the jury believes James is guilty. Justin, however, believes he may have accidentally killed Kendall in a car accident. Feeling guilty, Justin tries to convince the jurors that James may be innocent. The other key player is the prosecutor (Faith) who has big career plans to run for DA. She initially thinks she has an easy case on her hands, but begins to dig into the details more to discover that something is amiss.
Skillfully directed by Clint Eastwood, “Juror #2” is a film that deserved more attention. If this is to be Eastwood’s final directorial project, he goes out on a high note with this thematically rich story about morality, guilt, truth, justice, consequences, and secrets. Sure, it may feel a bit like a bit of a far fetched John Grisham yarn in spots, but that never detracts from the fact that this a thoughtful courtroom drama (although it’s a lot more than that).
“Juror #2” really excels at putting viewers in Justin’s shoes. How would you handle the situation? What would you do? Could you let an innocent man be jailed even though he was a criminal? Would you take responsibility for your actions and jeopardize your family’s future? Would you hide the truth and move on with your life? All of these scenarios are explored here which ratchets up the tension and anxiety.
On the subject of Justin, Nicholas Hoult gives one of the finest performances of his already distinguished career as the main character. The actor is already noted for his range of roles and he really gets to sink his teeth into this complex character. It’s especially impressive to see him convey a lot of internalized emotions. Hoult is aided by a stellar supporting cast featuring the likes of J.K. Simmons, Zoey Deutch, Kiefer Sutherland, and Toni Collette.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: 2.39:1 1080p. How does it look? The Blu-ray offers up a crisp hi-def transfer.
Audio Track: Dolby Atmos. How does it sound? As per usual, the Atmos track does not disappoint. It’s perfectly leveled and dynamic in the key moments.
The lone extra is a Digital copy.
