Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 3 Blu-ray Review

“Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 3” is the best of the trilogy.
Written by Jim Krieg, “Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 3” is the final chapter of this Phase 2 saga in the DC animated movie universe. After the appearance of the Anti-Monitor, the surviving Earths and Suns have been transported to The Bleed- a dimension outside the multiverse in order to avoid destruction. Unfortunately, the Earths are highly unstable in this realm and living there is not sustainable. This is especially evident on Earth-1 when the past, present and future collide leading to Dinosaurs and even The Losers popping up. Luckily, hope exists. Batman gets a message from Barry Allen to travel back in time to before the Multiverse existed where John Constantine might hold the answers as to what is happening and why. Lex Luthor also comes up with a plan to tip off the Anti-Monitor to the Bleed’s location in an effort to study him and possibly find a way to destroy the Anti-Monitor and restore the worlds to their former space. Other key storylines here involve Supergirl (who is distraught over killing the Monitor), Warworld, and the Monoverse machine.
After being underwhelmed by the first two parts, part 3 turned out to be a rather pleasant surprise. Yes, it’s messy, convoluted, jumps around too much, and can be construed as a glorified cameo fest, but this one felt more cinematic than its two predecessors. Director Jeff Wamester and writer Jim Krieg really go all out here in creating a spectacle. There’s fun action set pieces (including a battle against dinosaurs), ties to numerous Phase 2 DC animated films, exciting cameos of everything from “Super Friends” to “Batman: The Animated Series,” and most of all, the stakes are extremely high. It doesn’t hurt having John Consantine (once again played by Matt Ryan) in a pivotal role either. He’s long been a highlight of the DC universe in the past 15 years.
Naturally, the ensemble cast is gigantic with Hawkgirl, 2 Supermans, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, John Stewart, Doctor Fate, Batman Beyond. and a whole lot of heroes getting scenes. Of course, characters getting lost in the shuffle here as there isn’t nearly enough time for everyone. Still, when you’re crafting a big DC movie like this, there’s only so much you can do.
The WB Animation work here is top notch. It’s no secret that styles and budgets have changed over the course of the past number of years, but it felt like the entire team made an effort to make this look epic in scope.
