Billy Idol: State Line: Live At The Hoover Dam Blu-ray Review

“Billy Idol: State Line: Live At The Hoover Dam” will appeal to devoted fans.
On 4/8/23, Billy Idol performed the first ever concert at Hoover Dam. Now, you can relive this historic concert with the “Billy Idol: State Line: Live At The Hoover Dam” Blu-ray.
The program kicks off with a bit of a history lesson with Billy Idol talking about the legendary Dam over archival footage. Also included in this portion are snippets from an acoustic show with Idol and Steve Stevens at the base of the Dam (the entirety of which is presented in the extras) along with footage from a Las Vegas press event. After that the main event begins from daylight to darkness for 250 fans. The setlist includes “Cradle Of Love,” “Dancing With Myself,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” “Cage,” “Bitter Taste,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Dementia,” “Mony Mony,” “To Be A Lover,” “John Wayne,” “Running From The Ghost,” “One Hundred Punks,” “Blue Highway,” “Rebel Yell,” “Hot In The City,” “White Wedding.” Special guests include Alison Mosshart from The Kills on “John Wayne”, Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols and Tony Kanal of No Doubt fame on “Dancing With Myself,” and Tony Kanal on “One Hundred Punks.” Billy Idol’s band is also accompanied by backup singers Kitten and Maiya.
Directed by George Scott and Vincent Adam Paul, “Billy Idol: State Line: Live At The Hoover Dam” shows that the punk rocker from the 80’s is still kicking at the age of 67 (at the time of this show). He might not yell like he once could, he’s not as active on stage and his voice is a little gravely, but you have to respect the hustle. ‘State Line’ feels like a combination of a love letter to the faithful fans who have followed him through the decades and a once in a lifetime experience for Idol to do a show that has never been done before. On top of that, viewers get a little history lesson about the Dam (not to mention one stunning backdrop from a visual perspective). Truth be told, it’s the visual experience of the concert that steals the spotlight here especially with the stunning drone footage and the nifty rose light show on the rocks that occurs during the show closer “White Wedding.”
Speaking of the setlist, all of Idol’s hits are here with “Rebel Yell,” “Mony Mony,” and the aforementioned “White Wedding,” but he also performs tracks from various eras of his career. Aside from ‘Wedding,’ highlights include the guest star tracks “John Wayne” (which features a lovely duet with Alison Mosshart) and a deliciously guitar heavy rendition of “Dancing With Myself” with Tony Kanal and Steve Jones.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: Widescreen 1080p. How does it look? This is a gorgeous concert film with some very picturesque views of the Dam.
Audio Tracks: Dolby Atmos, PCM Stereo, 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? All 3 options are absolutely stellar for this rock show experience.
Bonus features include a 13 minute audio Q&A with guitarist Steve Stevens and a daytime Acoustic Dam performances of “To Be A Lover,” Eyes Without A Face,” and “Rebel Yell” (which is visually stunning)
