Bloodthirst DVD Review

You can do worse than “Bloodthirst.”
“Bloodthirst “ is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which human survivors try to fend off two warring factions of vampires. One such human (a roaming vampire hunter named John) is looking to take out a vampire Master and his Queen. John, who was once bitten but never turned, recruits help along the way from a thief (Charlie), a biker (Rico), 2 sisters (Brooke and Elena), and a shady militia who may not be trusted.
It’s Halloween so a horror review only seems right. Today’s offering is an indie vampire flick titled “Bloodthirst.” Directed by Michael Su and written by Adrian Milnes, “Bloodthirst” is a cheaply shot low-budget affair with goofy garbs, poor make-up, cheesy effects, and god awful voice modulations for the vampires (which effectively ruins the actor’s performances to a degree). If you can look past its many shortcomings, however, you’ll find a watchable enough “Blade” meets “Mad Max” vampire tale that has a respectable amount of characterization and world building with its post-apoc desert western vibe. Are there too many characters and scenes of vampires feasting on humans or stashing away humans for a later meal? Yes, but at least there’s enough going on around it. In fact, there’s apparently a sequel on the way.
The cast boasts a few notable names like Tara Reid (as the Vampire Queen), Robert LaSardo (as the Vampire Master) and Costas Mandylor of “Saw” fame. Mandylor’s vampire hunter character John is the highlight here to be sure. Newcomer Rich R. Rendon (who is also a producer) also seems to be having a blast as the biker Rico.
