Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes And Huntsmen Part 2 4K UHD Review

“Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes And Huntsmen Part 2” completely falters.

In the second part of this crossover animated movie event, Superman, Cyborg, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Vixen have returned to their world but they soon discover that new Grimm are terrorizing people across the globe. As the Justice League attempts to fight them off, Batman becomes injured and needs an antidote. In need of help, they reach out to team Ruby (Ruby, Weiss, Yang and Blake) who travel to the DC world (albeit looking a bit different). The fights against Grimm continue on, but the two sides are trying to discover the mystery of who Kilg%re is working with and what their ultimate plan is.

In the first entry the Justice League were in RWBY’s universe, but this time around it’s the opposite. While it was fun to see the Justice League as younger versions of themselves in RWBY’s universe, seeing RWBY characters in the DC Universe turns out to be less compelling primarily because there’s barely a story to be had here. The 75 minute Dustin Matthews and Yssa Badiola directed animated film is mostly comprised of tedious action set pieces involving battles against Grimm. Granted, if you love seeing these 2 sets of characters fight side by side you’ll be in heaven, but if you’re looking for characterization or a deeper story you won’t get that here outside of a few shoehorned in moments involving Ruby Rose and The Flash.

While it’s fun to see a few new characters pop up in this sequel ala Black Canary and a few random DC rogues, one can’t help but feel like all the intrigue and careful set-up from part one went to waste here. The payoff feels lackluster to put it lightly. It’s like writer Meghan Fitzmartin ran out of ideas and just created a bunch of action sequences that would give all the characters something to do.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1 2160p. How does it look? It may not be the most detailed or eye-popping CGI animation, but this crisp transfer delivers.

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? The 5.1 track is working overtime here in this action packed feature film.

Extras:
* Digital copy
* “I’ve Got Your Back: The Bond Between Justice League X RWBY”- A featurette on the dynamics between the 2 sets of characters in this second installment.
* “You Look…Different: RWBY On Earth” is all about the new RWBY character designs.
