The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is The Blood Of The Baboon Heart Blu-ray Review

“The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is The Blood Of The Baboon Heart” is for the fans.

2023’s “The Venture Bros: Radiant Is The Blood Of The Baboon Heart” is a new feature film that serves as a series finale to the long-running Adult Swim adult animated series. The film juggles numerous storylines including the blood relation between Rusty and The Monarch, Hank going off the grid to find himself (and consult with his identities), Dean searching for Hank, Rusty launching a new product called HelperPod, Mantilla and her organization ARCH, a flying skyscraper, and Sheila on a mission. How does this all tie together? Well, you’ll just have to see.

Directed by series creator Jackson Publick and written by Publick and Doc Hammer, ‘Radiant’ feels like a love letter to the fans. If you’re never seen an episode, this wouldn’t be a starting point. If you aren’t a fan of “The Venture Bros.,” this will not change your mind. It feels like a stretched out episode only with better animation and a bigger scope. For the fans out there, you will no doubt relish another opportunity to spend time with these characters and perhaps get a tiny bit of closure along the way too.

One might ask- are there too many storylines floating around in this film? The answer is yes, and it certainly gets too talky for its own good at points. It’s easy to see the desire by Publick and Hammer to cram as much in as possible (including fan favorite characters like Red Death, Dr. Orpheus, Jefferson Twilight, and many more), but it feels like there’s too much going on. It’s odd because the central story itself is very light and doesn’t feature the titular brothers as much as one might expect. Publick and Hammer seemed more concerned with giving every character their due which is understandable. Comedy wise, ‘Radiant’ isn’t my cup of tea, but props need to be given for the “Zardoz” and “The Inhumans” TV series references.

For those wondering, the voice cast is all here with James Urbaniak (Rusty), Patrick Warburton (Brock), Chris McCulloch (Hank and The Monarch), Doc Hammer (Sheila), Michael Sinterniklaas (Dean) and many others all stepping into their respective roles potentially for the last time.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1 1080p. How does it look? The animated feature boasts the best animation quality we’ve seen from ‘Venture’ and, as such, the transfer looks crisp and colorful.

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? From the action to the dialogue, this 5.1 track is a lively one.
