Arrow Season 7 Blu-ray Review

Season 7 shows that “Arrow” is running out of steam.

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.”

In the 24 episode season 7 (including the other 2 episodes of Elseworlds crossover event), Oliver Queen starts off the season in a maximum security prison while a new mystery archer emerges. Over in the flash forwards, the story jumps ahead to 2040 where we find out where many of the characters are in the future. The rest of the season deals with the Longbow Hunters, A.R.G.U.S., the villainous Ricardo Diaz, Chimera (who hunts vigilantes), Felicity and Oliver’s relationship, the Ninth Circle, Smoak Tech and the Archer program, and subplots with Team Arrow arrow members like Felicity, John Diggle, Curtis, Laurel, Black Canary, and Wild Dog.

As the series winds down to the eighth and final season, “Arrow” season 7 struggles a bit. Much of what we have seen before happens again. There’s secret organizations galore, Star City under siege from a big bad (again), cast changes, the tired flashback/flash forward device the show has used since the beginning, you get the drill. At this point, the DC series feels like it has run its course. That’s not to say the season isn’t without merit though.

Where “Arrow” shines the most is with the 3 part Elseworlds crossover which sees the introduction of Batwoman (whose own series is coming soon) and includes black suit Superman, A.M.A.Z.O., cameos, and so many more surprises. You’ll be aching for the hotly anticipated forthcoming mega event crossover series Infinite Crisis. Another plus is the season finale which proved to be a promising teaser for the eighth and last season as it dealt with the departure of Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity) and hinted at Oliver’s future. Many questions are raised, but we’ll have to see how it all pans out.
