Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Amazing Adventures: Robotanimals Issue 2 Comic Book Review

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Amazing Adventures: Robotanimals” issue 2 is in line with the first issue.

In issue 2 of writer Caleb Goellner’s TMNT mini-series, the story picks up right where issue 1 left off. Having turned mutanimals into robotanimals, Baxter Stockman has his sights set on mutating more. The Ninja Turtles regroup to come up with a plan to stop him. Donatello concocts a virus, but will it be enough? In their effort to stop Stockman and his robotanimals, the Turtles enlist the help of Casey and April and perhaps a few others along the way.

Despite boasting an involving enough story, the simplistic comic book plot of the Robotanimals mini-series still doesn’t seem worthy of multiple stories. If this were a one-shot or a single issue, I’d be on board. As a mini-series, however, it feels drawn out as you have to be subjected to fluff like the seemingly endless virus building bit and the Ice Cream Kitty (don’t ask).

On the plus side, there’s some fun stuff here. The cameo by Rahzar had me smiling as a longtime fan of the film franchise and the action is well depicted thanks to the art by Chad Thomas. He really captures the look and tone of the current Nickelodeon incarnation of TMNT.

Note: The comic concludes a Stan Sakai interview as well as TMNT, Hasbro and IDW comic ads.
