The Rocketeer Funko ReAction Figure Review
“The Rocketeer” ReAction action figure flies into stores.
When “The Rocketeer” motion picture was released way back in 1991, there was a fair number of merchandise that included a bendable figure, trading cards, and even Pizza Hut cups. One thing that was conspicuously missing, however, was an action figure on the pegs. Now, a full 23 years later, Funko has released a long overdue 3 ¾ inch Rocketeer action figure.
When it comes to action figures, I think we can all agree that the 80’s figures are the cream of the crop. Thankfully, the good folks at Funko understand this and have decided to release a retro inspired ReAction line of figures that includes “The Rocketeer” action figure. This figure is a straight up throwback to the vintage carded Kenner “Star Wars” and 80’s “G.I. Joe” action figures. As one might expect, the figure features moveable arms, legs, and head and comes with attachable/detachable helmet and jet pack.
Now, granted, the figure isn’t perfect. The face doesn’t remotely resemble actor Billy Campbell and the helmet is a little too loose when placed on the figure’s head. This may disappoint some collectors that were hoping for an articulated, detailed, higher quality figure, but it should be mentioned that there are rumblings of a Rocketeer Legacy figure on the horizon from Funko. With all of that said, the figure flaws simply do not matter all that much as owners will likely have the figure standing on a shelf anyway. If you were to play with the figure though, the helmet situation might be a bit problematic as adjustments will need to be made every now and then.
Slight issues aside, I think “The Rocketeer” fans will largely be happy with this figure. Not only does it look picture perfect when the helmet and jet pack are attached, but there’s also some great little details that hardcore fans will be overjoyed by (see the gum and gloves for reference).
Overall Thoughts: As I took “The Rocketeer” action figure out of the package, I couldn’t help but smile as my 1991 self would have no doubt been over the moon to have this figure. Luckily, Rocketeer fans of all ages can now add this figure to their collections. And they should.
Note: If “The Rocketeer” isn’t your thing, keep your eyes peeled for other ReAction figures coming down the pike from such films and franchises as “The Goonies,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Back to the Future,” “Firefly,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Predator,” “The Terminator,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “Escape from New York.”
