Nurse 3D Blu-ray Review
“Nurse 3D” is disposable entertainment.
In “Nurse 3D,” Paz de la Huerta stars as an emotionally unstable and sultry nurse/serial killer (Abigail Russell) who preys upon cheaters and basically anyone who gets in her way. The primary story involves Abigail becoming obsessed with a young nurse (Danni). Unfortunately for Abigail, Danni has a boyfriend and has no interest in spending time with her. In a jealous rage, Abigail sets out to sabotage Danni’s life in many brutal ways.
On paper, “Nurse 3D” looks like an entertaining, trashy, horror sexploitation thriller in the vein of low budget films such as “The Dentist.” In reality, however, the scare-free movie plays more like a poorly scripted, sex filled, late night Cinemax movie that you from the 90’s. Instead of embracing the tongue in cheek premise, writers Douglas Aarniokoski and David Loughery make the script one big gimmick. Everything from the cheesy 3D elements to the title here is intentionally gimmicky and it’s clear the creative team wanted to cash-in on that as much as they could. Unfortunately, the film flatlines from the get-go due to horrendous dialogue, an uninspired story, severe overacting and underacting by the film’s lead (Paz de la Huerta), clumsy narration, plot holes galore, and boring death scenes. Really, the only thing this movie has going for it is a scene stealing performance by Niecy Nash (“Reno 911!”) who plays the sassy nurse Regina.
Note: The Blu-ray disc contains the 3D and 2D Blu-ray versions of “Nurse 3D.”
Video/Audio:
Presentation: 2.40:1 1080p. How does it look? The stylized cinematography is one of the few highlights of this film and this hi-def transfer makes it look even better.
Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? In a word, lively.
Extras:
* Digital HD copy.
* Lionsgate trailers.
* Generally pointless video diaries of actress Katrina Bowden and actor Corbin Bleu
* “Bad Medicine: The Making of Nurse”- A featurette that contains film clips, cast and crew interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, plot and character discussions, the usual.
* A talkative commentary by writer/director Doug Aarniokoski that contains loads of interesting technical discussions about 3D, sets, rigs, lighting, and so forth.
Overall Thoughts: “Nurse 3D” may appeal to some viewers, but it’s not something that should be making anyone’s “to see” list.
