Jackass 3.5 (Unrated) Blu-ray Review
If you like “Jackass,” you will like “Jackass 3.5”.
If you’ve ever seen a “Jackass” film, you pretty much know what to expect from “Jackass 3.5” (which essentially contains the leftovers from “Jackass 3”). Of course, there’s the usual gags involving people falling, people jumping, people crashing, body parts, body fluids, male genitalia (real and fake), crotch shots, a made-up creepy old lady (wonderfully played by Spike Jonze), and nasty injuries (namely to Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O).
In the not so usual category, there are some fresh hilarious moments involving a mini-cannon, flying kicks to the face (in slow motion), Wee Man facing off against a bull, and yes, even soda mint explosions. Also semi-new to the “Jackass” films are extended interviews with the Jackass gang. Johnny Knoxville, Ryan Dunn, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius and company chat about life on set, the gags/sketches/stunts, the neat phantom camera, and Dave’s foul drunken behavior. These little moments wind up adding to the experience as viewers get a sense of what it’s like on set and what it’s like to do these stunts, gags, sketches (or whatever you want to call them).
On the downside, I was a little bummed to see a lack of pranks on unsuspecting people in public. To me, the pranks were always the best part of the television series and there never seems to be enough of them in the films. The gang seems more concerned with pulling pranks on each other instead which isn’t as entertaining.
Summary: While “Jackass 3.5” does have more of the same at times, there’s still plenty of material here that will undoubtedly crack viewers up.
Note: This Blu-ray disc will be available at Best Buy starting June 14th.
Video/Audio:
The widescreen 1080p picture quality is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the picture quality is unquestionably sharper in hi-def. On the other hand, viewers have to see a clearer picture of the Jackass gang’s body parts (and body fluids) than they probably ever want to see.
The 5.1 DTS-HD audio track is satisfactory. No need to say anymore than that.
Extras:
* Nearly 20 minutes of outtakes which mostly consist of injuries, new scenes/gags, and in between take conversations to the camera.
* “Jackass European Tour”- A behind-the-scenes look at the Jackass gang’s European press tour.
* “Jackass: The Beginning”- A 40 minute documentary about how “Jackass” came about, how the cast members joined the show, interviews with the cast, New footage, discussions about classic gags from the series,
* 11 deleted scenes that include everything from a magnifying glass and Party Boy to Preston Lacy walking the plank and a bad dad.
