Eden Of The East: The King Of Eden Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack Review

“Eden Of The East: The King Of Eden” is a dull continuation of the series.

Taking place six months after where the series left off, this movie finds Saki searching for her friend Akira Takizawa who has now become a hero for stopping the missiles. Saki finds him in New York City, but unfortunately, Akira’s memory has now been erased. To make matters more complicated, Akira is being targeted by members of the Selecao game still. If you haven’t seen the series, none of this will make any sense to you.

As someone who dug the series, I have to say I was pretty disappointed by this follow-up movie. While I appreciate the characterization between Saki and Akira, I found the story to be uneventful to say the least. The problem for me is that there seemed to be a lot of filler laced throughout the movie. How many conversation scenes in the Eden Of The East office do viewers need to see? How many scenes of Akira and Saki wandering around New York do we need to see? The movie was in desperate need of more action and less talking.

On the plus side, the movie looks visually superb. The animation is breathtaking throughout. Everything from the cityscapes to the detailed movie theater is striking. The animators deserve a lot of praise here.

Summary: If you are an “Eden Of The East,” you may want to see this film. If not, there’s no need to view this snooze worthy film.

Note: This Blu-ray set also contains two DVDs as well which contain the movie and the extras.

Video/Audio:

The DVD picture quality is quite sharp looking in the animation department, but again, it doesn’t compare to the hi-def 1080p Blu-ray transfer. The Blu-ray picture quality is simply crystal clear.

The Blu-ray set contains English and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 5.1. For once both tracks are superb. The English dub and the original language Japanese track both boast outstanding voicework and lively sound f/x.

Extras:
* Trailers for “Evangelion 2.22,” “TO,” “Rideback,” “Black Butler,” “Hero Tales,” “Eden Of The East,” “D.Gray-Man,” “Soul Eater,” “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” and “El Casador de la Bruja.”
* TV Spots.
* Movie 1 preview and news flash.
* An 80 prequel minute movie titled “Air Communication” which is basically a movie form version of the series.
