Gangland Season 6 Blu-ray Review

“Gangland” is a disturbing, but watchable documentary series.

In these 11 episodes of the sixth season, episodes focus on the following gangs: the biker gang Vagos in L.A., the Tri-City Bombers in Texas, Sureno 13 in Atlanta, Volksfront (based in Portland), South Side Locos in Oklahoma City, Gangster Killer Bloods in South Carolina, the biker gang Devils Deciples in Detroit, Logan Heights in San Diego, the Galloping Goose biker gang in Kansas Ciy, Sex Money Murder in New Jersey and a prison gang named SNM in New Mexico. Note: The sixth season actually includes 13 episodes, but 2 of the episodes were not included in this set for some season.

I should start off by saying that this series is not for everyone nor is it for the faint of heart. “Gangland” is a chilling and disturbing look at gangs who murder, rob, deal drugs, and or committ sexual crimes. Some of these gangs are after power or money while others are just hateful. Through interviews (sometimes anonymous) with former or current gang members, FBI agents, undercover cops, police officers and prison court officials, viewers get an unflinching look at this dark criminal underworld. While it can undoubtedly be hard to watch to see what these gangs have done, it’s even harder to look away as this reality/documentary series shows viewers something most people have never seen before. Whether or not you want to see it is another question.

The widescreen 1080p picture quality varies in quality as the show contains everything from home video footage to stock footage.

The DTS-HD 2.0 audio track is a little flat, but it does its job.

Extras: Bonus footage titled “The Gangs Of New York City,” “West Coast Slang,” “The Original One Percenters,” “The Hood,” and “Wounded.”
