Modern Family : The Complete First Season Blu-Ray
“Modern Family” has become a runaway hit for ABC and raked in a lot of Emmy nominations , unusual for a comedy in its first year. This three disc blu-ray set has all the episodes from Season One plus some very humorous extras.
For those not familiar with the show, it follows the extended family of a Los Angeles brood, headed by Ed O’Neill (Married With Children), his new family including a younger wife from Colombia (Sofia Vergara) and her son, Manny, who wise beyond his years; his daughter (Julia Bowen) and her husband (Ty Burrell) and kids, and his son, who is a gay lawyer (Jay Tyler Ferguson) and his boyfriend (Eric Stonestreet) who stays at home to raise their just adopted Vietnamese daughter, Lily. The series is shot in one camera style, with cast members addressing the camera at times as they deal with the multicultural, multi-diverse situations that arise.
What’s great about the show is its writing and spontaneous humor, as you follow these three families as they live their everyday lives with hilarious results. The show is intelligent and is really relevant to today’s modern lifestyles. Give give credit to the show’s creator-Christopher Lloyd (not the actor), who also worked on “Fraser”.
Extras include behind the scenes for a couple of the season episodes (Hawaii and Family Portrait), a breakdown of work the cast did before this show and screentests, extended/alternate scenes, a gag reel, and Eric Stonestreet’s love of clowns. While its a good deal of extras, not much that really exploits the technical superiorities of the Blu-Ray format.
“Modern Family” is one of the new, brightest spots in television comedy and because of its format, is a great value, as you will catch different comedy scenes on second viewings. It is a very funny show that addresses modern life and this first season set is a must pick up for fans.
