Stomp The Yard: Homecoming DVD Review
“Stomp The Yard: Homecoming” is strictly for fans of the first film and step dancing.
The plot: A young dancer named Chance has a hectic and troublesome life. He’s in debt to an angry gang, he’s struggling to come to terms with his mother’s death, and he’s juggling college, a job at his dad’s restaurant, a girlfriend, and being on the fraternity dance team. On top of that, he’s trying to train for the Sprite Step Off Competition so that he can win money and a scholarship. Can Chance overcome his troubles and struggles and get his life in order?
If you’ve seen a step dancing film before, you know what to expect here in this direct to DVD sequel to “Stomp The Yard”. It’s your basic story of a protagonist trying to overcome the odds and win the big dance. Sure, the film is competently directed and choreographed, but the entertainment market is already flooded with dance films and TV shows. The world does not need another unoriginal, quick-cut dance film (especially one with goofy dance numbers like the climactic ninja dance routine).
Summary: If you want to see a dance film, just watch the hilarious and entertaining “Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.”
The 1.78:1 widescreen is, for the most part, fine. The film is very well shot with the exception of the excessive use of lens flare in the opening sequence.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is consistently being put to work in this loud movie. From the blaring music and crowd cheers to the dialogue and obnoxious auto-tune music, there’s a lot going on here.
Extras:
* Sony trailers.
* 8 deleted scenes.
* “Stomp On The Yard: Choreography”- A behind-the-scenes featurette about the corepgraphed dance sequences.
* Commentary by Rob Hardy, Will Packer, Collins Pennie and Stephen “Twitch” Boss. A talkative commentary filled with trivia tidbits, discussions about the story and characters, etc. Worth a listen if you enjoyed the film.
