The plot: The Daleks are in London searching for a powerful Gallifreyan device known as The Hand Of Omega that the Doctor previously left on Earth. Now, with the help of the military, it’s up to the Doctor and Ace to stop the Daleks from completing their quest.
For those critical of classic Who’s low budget and cheap production values, you might want to check out ‘Remembrance.’ From the beginning to the finale, this 4 parter is jam packed with exciting shootouts, weapons, explosions, Daleks firing death rays, and yes, even Ace hitting Daleks with a baseball bat. Writer Ben Aaronovitch and the production team clearly went all out here to make this an intense and, more importantly, fun Dalek centric episode.
Speaking of Daleks, there are A LOT here. Dalek fans will have a blast seeing a variety of ‘factions’ of Daleks such as the Imperial Daleks, Renegade Daleks, the Supreme Dalek and the Dalek Emperor.
Additionally, I have to give praise to Sylvester McCoy here as I particularly enjoyed his performance as the Doctor here. I liked that he made the Doctor more mysterious and secretive as it makes him more compelling not knowing what he might do or what he is thinking.
Summary: “Remembrance Of The Daleks” is one of the best episodes of the seventh Doctor’s era. Check it out.
The 4:3 fullscreen picture quality is as sharp as can be. This is definitely one of the best looking classic ‘Who’ episodes.
This special edition set contains a Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks. I absolutely loved hearing the 5.1 track. It just brings so much more depth to the episodes. Just listen to the opening title credits or some of the explosive action scenes if you don’t believe me
