Night At The Museum: Battle For The Smithsonian

Night At The Museum: Battle For The Smithsonian is better than most sequels. While there are some weaknesses in plot (predictability, stuff we saw in the original) there is still a lot to like about this sequel.  First, Amy Adams and Hank Azaria steal the show as Amelia Earhart and an Egyptian King , who talks like Boris Karloff.  Adams carries off her role well, full of energy and spunk.  The regulars from the first film are mostly there too, Owen Wilson as a miniature cowboy, and Robin Williams in two different portrayals of Teddy Roosevelt.  Another good highlight is when the statue of Abraham Lincoln comes to life in a couple scenes. Wasted in the sequel the most is Christopher Guest, who plays Ivan The Terrible, who really only has one good bit in the film.

The comedy is clean (rated PG) and yet interesting for children and adults.  Quite a few lines were written for the adult audience.

The disc comes complete with 3 commentaries, and the following:

  • The Curators of Comedy: Behind the Scenes of Night At The Museum 2
  • Historical Confessions: Famous Last Words
  • Directing 201: A Day In The Life of Director/Producer Shawn Levy
  • Cavemen Conversations: Survival of the Wittiest
  • Show Me The Monkey Featurettes: Monkey Business, Primate Prima Donnas, The Secret Life of a Monkey Movie Star: Life Off Camera
  • The Jonas Brothers in Cherub Bootcamp
  • Museum Magic: Entering the World of the Photograph
  • Secret Doors and Scientists: Behind the Scenes of the American Museum of Natural History
  • Phinding Pharoah
  • 11 Deleted Scenes with Commentary by Shawn Levy
  • Alternate Ending
  • Gangster Levy
  • Gag Reel

  • FOX Movie Channel Presents: World Premiere

The package also comes with regular dvd and a digital copy for ipod and computer.  A good deal and an entertaining sequel.
