The Tigger Movie Blu-ray Review
Despite being drawn out, “The Tigger Movie” is a sweet animated film.
The plot: Tigger searches for someone like him to bounce around with since none of his 100 Acre Woods pals are able to keep up with him. With no family in sight, however, Pooh, Piglet, Kanga, Roo, Eeyore, Rabbit and Owl try to cheer him up. Will Tigger find his family or will he realize that Pooh and company ARE his family?
As someone who grew up on “Winnie The Pooh” shorts from “The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh,” it’s a little odd to see a feature length film based in this universe. The characters (especially Tigger) seem better suited to short segments, episodes, or an anthology film, and not a feature film. This is especially evident with “The Tigger Movie.” While the film contains a sweet and charming plot about friendship, the script struggles to fill time by adding time wasting songs and drawn out scenes. The “Round My Family Tree” song is a notably odd fit here as it contains pop culture references which are both distracting and out of place for the “Winnie The Pooh.” ‘Pooh’ has always been about the characters and when the movie focuses on them, it works well enough.
Speaking of the characters, all the familiar faces from “The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh” make appearances here (including Christopher Robin). Surprisingly, it’s Roo who stands out the most here as his heartfelt friendship with Tigger is the best part of the story.
“The Tigger Movie” is presented in 1.78:1 1080p and it looks positively perfect (like virtually all Disney Blu-ray catalog titles). ‘Tigger’s blend of old fashioned 2D animation background settings with a modern 2D/3D style really pops in hi-def. The avalanche scene and the “Round My Family Tree” sequences are particularly colorful.
The 5.1 DTS-HD audio track delivers crisp sounding songs and voice acting. That’s all you can ask of for a hi-def upgrade of this particular film.
